The most common smart home frustration is buying a device that doesn’t work with your existing setup. This guide helps you check compatibility before you buy — covering WiFi, voice assistants, apps, hubs, and existing devices.

Check 1: WiFi Compatibility
All Homiio devices require 2.4 GHz WiFi.
- ✅ Standard router (2.4 GHz + 5 GHz) — connect phone to 2.4 GHz during setup
- ✅ Mesh WiFi (Eero, Google Nest WiFi) — broadcasts 2.4 GHz automatically
- ✅ WiFi 6 router — includes 2.4 GHz band
- ❌ 5 GHz only router — enable 2.4 GHz band on your router
- ❌ No WiFi / Ethernet only — WiFi required

Check 2: Voice Assistant Compatibility
- ✅ Amazon Alexa — Enable Tuya Smart skill. See Alexa Academy
- ✅ Google Home — Link Tuya Smart service. See Google Home Academy
- ⚠️ Apple Siri / HomeKit — Requires Matter bridge. Not natively supported.
- ⚠️ Samsung SmartThings — Some Tuya devices work via SmartThings.
Check 3: App Compatibility
- ✅ Tuya Smart (iOS & Android) — Primary app for all Homiio devices
- ✅ Smart Life (iOS & Android) — Same platform as Tuya Smart
- ✅ Amazon Alexa app — After linking Tuya Smart skill
- ✅ Google Home app — After linking Tuya Smart service
- ❌ Apple Home app — Requires Matter bridge
Check 4: Hub Compatibility
- ✅ No hub (WiFi direct) — Recommended. All Homiio WiFi devices work without a hub
- ✅ Amazon Echo — Acts as Alexa hub for routines and groups
- ✅ Google Nest Hub — Acts as Google Home hub
- ✅ Home Assistant — Tuya integration available
- ⚠️ SmartThings Hub — Partial support via SmartThings

Check 5: Existing Brand Compatibility
- ✅ Philips Hue, TP-Link Kasa, Govee, Ring, Nest — All work alongside Homiio via shared Alexa / Google Home
- ✅ Other Tuya-based brands — Share the same Tuya Smart app
Check 6: Electrical Compatibility (Smart Switches)
- ✅ Standard on/off switch (with or without neutral wire)
- ❌ Traditional dimmer switch — replace with standard switch first
- ⚠️ 3-way switch — check individual product listing
Important: Smart bulbs require a standard on/off switch — never a traditional dimmer.
